This is the story of Deirdre Smyth. Deirdre was a primary school teacher, a mother to three and an accomplished musician from Dublin, Ireland. Deirdre’s Irish Traditional music journey began in the early 80’s when her now late father brought her to learn the fiddle from Seán Montgomery and the flute from Vincent Broderick.
Deirdre always dreamt of releasing an album of her own one day and taking over the Irish music scene. Her dream was unable to come to light after she was diagnosed with ampullary cancer in 2021 and a year later, Deirdre passed at the age of 50. However, she was determined to leave a legacy behind her. On some of her weakest days, she sat at her kitchen table and had her daughter record some sets on her phone. After her passing, it came to light that there were some archival recordings of her playing. It is a pleasure to be able to release these recordings in the form of her own album.
Profits made from this album will be donated to Breakthrough Cancer Research.
In loving memory of our talented friend Deirdre Smyth.
